About Egyptian Public and Mental Health Department – Harrisburg
The Egyptian Public and Mental Health Department offers a Recovery Resource Center that provides addiction and mental health support for adults and adolescents looking for substance use prevention and recovery services. This Center is conveniently located in Saline County in Harrisburg, Illinois.
Adults in and around Harrisburg who are struggling with alcohol addictions or substance use can take advantage of the services at the Recovery Resource Center. Clients will first undergo an assessment and evaluation. A personalized plan will be developed which could include participation in an outpatient program, medication assisted treatment (MAT), counseling or group sessions. The facility also offers DUI evaluation and risk education.
One interesting program offered at this facility focuses specifically on individuals with gambling addictions. The staff members at the Egyptian Health Department understand that gambling addictions can develop over time or suddenly. They also understand how this type of addiction can spill over into the person’s entire life.
The Recovery Resource Center has specific programs designed to support adolescents. These prevention services are geared toward students who are enrolled in White and Gallatin County Schools in 5th-8th grade.
Project Alert provides a substance use prevention curriculum that was specifically created to curb an adolescent’s desire to experiment with drugs. Project Alert teaches students specific coping skills that they can use to resist peer pressure and avoid the trap of addiction. This is a two-year program.
My Generation Rx is another educational program that was created to prevent the misuse of prescription medications. This course teaches students positive alternatives to prescription pills and how to turn down students who are encouraging them to misuse prescriptions.
