Florida State Hospital used to be a fort in the 1830s. It’s located in Chattahoochee, Florida. They have inpatient care for drug addiction and mental health issues for adults ages 18+. Most clients are referred from outside groups, including through the courts, once they have exhausted all their other treatment options. There’s a special service track for seniors.
Once admitted, you might require detox, which consists of medical and social components. There’s medications that can help with withdrawals and cravings. After that, you may be transferred to inpatient or outpatient care.
The inpatient program consists of 161 beds for adults and 68 beds reserved for seniors (about half of these are for Medicaid clients). If you have a dual diagnosis condition, there’s also 32 beds available as well. Treatments range from developing life skills to addressing underlying mental health issues. There’s also a legal advocacy program to help with court costs, child custody, and finding a steady job when you’re released.
The visitation policy is strict. There’s a required dress code and selected times that you can visit. Guests must be cleared for visitation beforehand by the administration.
