GV Sonny Montgomery VA Medical Center is located at 1500 East Woodrow Wilson Avenue in Jackson, Mississippi. The medical center is open 24/7 and offers many services, including treatment for addiction and mental health disorders. The center treats Veterans, active military, and their dependents. You can use commercial insurance, your VA benefits, and other government insurance, such as Medicare and Medicaid.

Jackson is known as the “City With a Soul,” due to its rich and turbulent history. The Mississippi Freedom Trail runs throughout the city and includes many historical markers important to the Civil Rights movement. The medical center is three miles from the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum.

If you’re seeking treatment for substance use disorder (SUD) or mental health challenges, the medical center has intensive outpatient (IOP), standard outpatient, and residential treatment programs. Treatment includes evidence based therapy modalities, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing (MI), along with other therapies.

I think many clients will appreciate the transitional and supportive housing program offered here. Unemployment, financial hardship, mental health challenges, and addiction can all put you at risk for homelessness. If you’re at risk, the team will connect you with supportive community services. Free healthcare is another part of the program.

A care coordinator will help take care of your immediate needs, such as shelter and food. They’ll help establish you in a permanent housing situation. Community Employment Coordinators (CEC) assist with job referrals and connect job ready candidates to open positions. Additionally, CECs help Veterans apply their military experience to civilian jobs.

SUD and mental health issues are often involved in homelessness. The program includes depression and addiction treatment.

There are many primary care services available at this center as well. If you have tinnitus (ringing in the ears), hearing loss, or vertigo, doctors in the audiology department are there to help. From dermatology to pain management, you’re likely to find any services you need at this facility.

Levels of Care

12-Step

12 step programs such as Alcoholics or Narcotics Anonymous are support group style programs for individuals who are experiencing alcohol or substance use disorder. At Evoke they use a holistic model of addiction care that includes using 12 step programs. These programs are an integral part of most relapse prevention plans and provide continued support and accountability that support sobriety.

Aftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Inpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Medically Assisted Detox

Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Outpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Adult Program
