About Gateway To Prevention & Recovery – Shawnee

Gateway To Prevention and Recovery’s Pottawatomie County Clinical Office is an addiction and mental health treatment facility that provides prevention, recovery, and treatment services to individuals and families throughout Shawnee and Oklahoma.

One great thing about this facility is that clients are not turned away due to an inability to pay. Payment for services is determined based on financial eligibility. The facility currently accepts Medicaid, Medicare, Sooner Care, and other commercial insurance policies. They also accept private pay and have a sliding fee scale for eligible clients.

The Shawnee location has outpatient treatment services and recovery services to aid clients through their journey towards complete recovery. The services can help children, adolescents, and adults. The facility offers trauma informed counseling, couples counseling, parenting classes, and case management.

One great feature of this facility is their Survivors of Suicide Support Group.

Many of Gateway’s prevention efforts focus on stopping, slowing, and preventing the development of substance use before they begin. Two of the facility’s main community coalition programs are the Youth ACCT group and the Pottawatomie Alliance Towards Community Health (PATCH).

The Youth ACCT (Achieve Community Change Together) is a program geared toward middle and high school students around the Pottawatomie area. This group helps prevent underage drinking and drug use.

Pottawatomie Alliance Towards Community Health (PATCH) focuses on developing community partnerships between associations, businesses, agencies, and individuals to work towards youth prevention efforts. The group focuses on key issues like drinking, tobacco prevention, obesity, prescription drug misuse, and vaping.

Levels of Care

Aftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Medically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Outpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
