About Gaudenzia Pottsville – Pottsville
Gaudenzia is a nonprofit with locations throughout the northeast, including in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. The organization, which was founded in 1968, offers a broad compendium of alcohol and drug rehab services, from crisis intervention and detox to residential treatment. At the Pottsville location, adolescents and adults can receive intensive outpatient (IOP) and general outpatient (OP) care. The CARF accredited facility also offers dual diagnosis treatment for those who are grappling with substance use disorder alongside other mental illnesses like anxiety or depression.
One of the things I like most about Gaudenzia is that they offer care that is inclusive, culturally competent, trauma informed and gender specific. That’s important because factors such as cultural background, gender and sexual identity and adverse experiences can significantly affect how people interact with themselves and the world.
I also like that their treatment is individualized and holistic. In addition to treating substance use disorder and other mental illnesses, they try to help people identify and overcome the factors that led them to misuse substances in the first place. As a part of this mission, they offer services like affordable housing assistance to ensure folks have safe, secure environments in which to continue their recovery.
Another cool thing about Gaudenzia is that its founders had overcome drug and alcohol use themselves and formed the organization to help others in their community. Throughout the decades, the nonprofit has maintained its devotion to protecting and empowering some of the most vulnerable populations. For example, it has dedicated programs for people who have HIV/AIDS and others for those who are pregnant or parenting. They also offer services for people involved in the criminal justice system.
