Located along the Susquehanna River, Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania is home to Genesis House. Since 1985, this outpatient center has welcomed adults, youth and families battling addiction and gambling disorders. You can access proven therapeutic interventions to reach your recovery goals.
They welcome everyone but they prioritize certain vulnerable populations. Pregnant women and others who inject drugs, women with children, those who’ve survived overdoses and veterans are their target populations.
With outpatient care, you’ll gain essential coping skills for healing and growth while living at home. They offer standard and intensive outpatient programs to meet you where you are in recovery. After an assessment, you’ll work closely with their team to design a personalized treatment plan with your goals at the forefront. You can participate in group and individual counseling, trauma informed counseling, psychoeducation and more.
What stands out most to me is they offer gambling disorder counseling. While sometimes overlooked, gambling addiction can be just as detrimental as drugs and alcohol. Their dedicated team helps you get to the root of your addiction and provides the tools to change your behaviors.
I also think their culturally competent approach is great. Along with customized treatment, you can access services in multiple languages to meet your unique needs. To me, this is fantastic because language can be a significant barrier to treatment for some. They ensure you can receive care in an environment that acknowledges and accommodates you.
Lastly, I like that they have certified recovery specialists. Recovery coaches have lived experience in addiction and recovery. They can be vital in your journey by connecting you to essential resources and offering their perspective to help you through challenges. You’ll benefit from empowerment, advocacy and support from a peer who was once in your shoes.
