About Hazel Street Recovery Center – Texarkana
The Hazel Street Recovery Center in Texarkana, Texas, was a drug rehab facility that supported teen boys aged 14 and older who were struggling with substance use and addiction. They had a dedicated long-term residential treatment program here that helped participants work through their addiction struggles. There was a three month commitment if you wanted to enroll your child in the program.
The Hazel Street Recovery Center shut its doors permanently in 2017. This building has since been bought over and renovated as a treatment center for recently released paroled men.
At the core of the programming here was that children adhere to a life of abstinence when it comes to substance use, including substances that don’t alter or impact their mood in detrimental ways. To help children reach this commitment of abstinence, they offered skills based treatment approaches to care. Children learned how to manage complex emotions and how to navigate circumstances that would have led to relapse.
A typical schedule for an adolescent enrolled in the residential program was rather structured. Children had a blend of daily activities consisting of individual therapy, group therapy, structured leisure time, and designated time periods for phone use to call loved ones. There was also a structured school schedule so that children did not fall behind in their academics.
Healthy daily lifestyle habits like cleaning up after yourself, participating in house meetings and recreational activities were incorporated into the daily schedule. For children who had medication requirements, there was a medical staff to ensure appropriate doses were taken at designated times.
