About Hispanic Counseling Center – Hempstead

Since it started way back in the 1970s, the Hispanic Counseling Center has been a community resource center. You’ll find ’em located out in Hempstead, New York, They provide outpatient addiction treatment services for Long Island’s Latino community, from kids to adults. There’s an emphasis on family involvement with lots of activities, crisis intervention, after-school tutoring, and summer camps. Their prevention programs help at-risk families build healthier futures. Programs are available in English and Spanish.

Clients coming to the center’s substance use disorder program usually begin with evaluations to help identify their treatment needs. Then an individualized treatment plan will be put together. Every treatment plan is designed to meet the unique needs of each client, focusing on both mental health and addiction. If you have a dual diagnosis, they can tackle that as well.

You’ll find a variety of therapy options. Individual therapy targets personal challenges, while family therapy works to heal relationships impacted by addiction. Group therapy is a fantastic way to connect with others who share similar experiences. You’ll build a network of peers who’ll stay with you, even after you graduate the program. That way, you’ll always have a sympathetic ear or shoulder to lean on. There’s even a women-only group!

Speaking of families, interventions create a supportive environment where family members can discuss addiction openly and honestly. Beyond interventions, the center offers educational programs to help families understand the effects of addiction. With strong family support, it’s much easier to find a path forward in recovery.

They offer several evidence-based practices that have been shown to support recovery. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), or talk therapy, works in both individual and group settings. Motivational enhancement therapy (MET) helps clients explore their feelings about addiction and their desire for change.

The center helps with more than just addictions. They offer resources for housing, job training, and legal aid. Their vocational services focus on building job skills and finding steady work. Their comprehensive approach helps clients stay on track for long-term recovery.

Programs

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
