About Home on the Range – Sentinel Butte
Located in Sentinel Butte, North Dakota, is the adolescent residential recovery facility, Home on the Range. This organization is state licensed as a qualified residential treatment program and supports boys and girls aged 12 to 17 who are experiencing behavioral health struggles that are negatively impacting their lives. Many of the children here have been the victim of severe trauma which has contributed to their delinquent behaviors.
At the heart of this program is their work therapy treatment approach that helps children develop coping skills so that they can overcome the traumatic instances that have influenced their early years. Within this program, there are also services that address struggles with drug and alcohol use.
There’s a therapeutic animal assistance recovery program that allows children to work through complex emotions, traumatic life experiences and other life struggles in an environment that is safe and supportive. Children have the opportunity to work on a ranch, work one-on-one with animals, and develop a sense of self and motivation to work through the challenges they’re facing.
There is an equine therapy program here that gives children the opportunity to connect with animals in a way that’s calming and peaceful. There’s also a canine program that allows children to continue building relevant skills for recovery. Children learn how to work as part of a team, problem solve and connect with the animals in a way that’s nurturing.
A component of the program is access to their drug and alcohol treatment services. These services apply both abstinence and non abstinence approaches, allowing children to get addiction education services while encouraging them to make the right choices for their lives. This is a 12 week program, and children will work in a group setting with other peers.
