About Horizons Counseling & Education Center – Smithtown
Based in Smithtown, New York, Horizons Counseling & Education Center is a nonprofit, OASAS-licensed agency specializing in addiction treatment, prevention and education services for drug and alcohol issues. Support is available to teens and adults. In terms of payment, they accept private insurance options, Medicaid and Medicare. Sliding scale fees are also available.
Founded in 1979, the center has decades of support with helping individuals tackle their addiction and substance abuse issues. Daytime and evening appointments are available to provide flexibility for varying work and study schedules. Individuals can benefit from services including assessments, individual and group counseling sessions, as well as prevention programming and specialized treatment options. Counseling is available by appointment only but can include support for individuals with concurrent mental and behavioral health issues and psychiatric evaluations where deemed necessary.
Medication assisted treatment (MAT) and medication management services are also available for treating both addiction and mental health conditions. An onsite psychiatrist can evaluate clients by appointment and subsequently prescribe relevant medications to help manage conditions. MAT is only available to clients already attending counseling sessions. Follow-up appointments are typically scheduled throughout MAT to check on client progress and adjust their prescription as needed.
Onsite classes for individuals with DUI/DWIs are also available through the center’s Stony Brook Drinker Driver Program (DDP). DUI-specific group therapy sessions are also an option for those who may benefit. Clients can also access prevention programs here for things like anger management, domestic violence and teen addiction intervention.
