About Human Service Agency – Watertown

The Human Service Agency (HSA) is a community support provider and behavioral health center that also offers outpatient addiction treatment for adults. The main building is located in Watertown, South Dakota and the Agency provides services that help clients set and achieve meaningful goals and live a productive life. They serve almost 3,000 people a year across three towns in South Dakota.

They provide help for those with chemical and gambling addictions using evidence based treatment methods and a comprehensive plan to address the needs of the whole person. They emphasize individualized care under the supervision of a multi disciplinary team comprised of a psychiatrist, psychologist, chemical dependency counselor, mental health counselor, a nurse and a social worker.

They have an intensive outpatient program that lasts six weeks and you’ll have group sessions three times per week, along with individual and family therapy. HSA also has unique additional programs to treat and support those struggling with addiction, including an intensive prevention program and Cognitive Behavioral Interventions for Substance Abuse (CBISA). You can also attend DUI classes here.

Along with addiction treatment they have a Children, Youth and Family Services Department to help with mental health issues using individual, family or couples counseling sessions. HSA’s mental health services use a unique system of care where they have you identify people you know who you want on your support team. This personal support team helps you reach your goals. Along with family and friends, your team may be made up of school personnel, child protection workers, court supervisors and/or Department of Corrections agents.

Mental health services can be delivered where you choose, whether that’s your home, an agency office, a school, or somewhere in public. What I really like about this treatment center is how they encourage you to build a support team in your life to help short and long term.

Programs

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Military Program

Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
