About Kristi House – Miami
Kristi House is a community service center in Miami, Florida. Primarily they specialize in treating childhood trauma and advocating for trauma survivors so you wouldn’t think of them as a typical rehab center. But they do treat drug and alcohol addiction in a particular program for teenagers called Risk Reduction through Family Therapy or RRFT.
RRFT is a program for adolescents who struggle with addiction or other high risk behaviors and who have a background of childhood trauma. They especially serve teens who have co-occurring substance use disorder and mental health conditions like PTSD and depression which often stem from childhood trauma.
This program is focused on reducing risky behaviors in your teenager through the lens of childhood trauma. They’ll help you and your teenager understand why they take the risks and make the choices they do and how their past trauma affects this. Just as importantly they’ll help your family understand how to change these behaviors throughout the journey of healing from trauma
This program is very family focused, so you’ll be involved in the treatment along with your teen. You’ll attend weekly family therapy sessions for 16 to 20 weeks but it’s individualized to what your child needs. They use evidence based techniques like dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and motivational interviewing (MI). The treatment is ecologically informed too which means it takes into account your child’s environment at home and in school and among their peers.
Families and community members appreciate this facility for the important work they do and the services they provide. Overall, they say that the staff cares deeply about the families they work with and that everyone there seems to take the mission to heart.
