About Lasting Change – Hagerstown
Lasting Change has served the women of Washington County in Hagerstown, Maryland for at least 35 years. They’re formerly known as the W House. They’re all about helping women break free from substance use and live a productive lifestyle. They offer residential care alongside a step down outpatient program.
They also serve women involved with the criminal justice system. Residents benefit from structured recovery-focused care delivered in a safe, clean and environment that’s designed for healing. You’ll also enjoy additional support thanks to their partnership with sober living homes. The facility is modern and fully equipped with many amenities. This is to enhance comfort among residents while onsite.
The facility sits within a residential neighborhood in Hagerstown’s North End. This location is relatively calm with easy access to the downtown area. They’re readily accessible through the US Route 40 and Interstate 81. This corridor links Hagerstown to nearby cities like Chambersburg in Pennsylvania and Martinsburg in West Virginia. The I-70 corridor is also a short drive offering a direct link to Frederick, Baltimore and Washington, DC.
The program begins with an assessment followed by personalized treatment planning by the staff. This helps them tailor care to your unique recovery needs. Residents go through an orientation period to get familiar with the onsite activities. The program involves five weekly group therapy sessions alongside one individual session. These sessions aims to equip
you with practical coping strategies that fosters relapse prevention.
Family involvement may be provided on your request. You’ll also attend educational classes and life skills training that prepare you for independent living. Skills like decision making, problem solving and healthy communication are taught in a group setting to encourage shared learning.
What sets this residential care apart to me is the variety of programs designed to support women’s personal growth in every area of life. This ranges from workforce development, financial literacy and wellness support to food safety, music therapy and women’s empowerment. This component of the program comes from partnerships with many external agencies.
Workforce development helps you gain the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in a professional setting. This may include things like resume building, job interview techniques, workplace communication and time management. Financial literacy promotes financial awareness. They teach budgeting, saving, managing debt and financial planning. These are key for building a stable life post recovery.
Music therapy enhances your emotional wellbeing and encourages creativity. The wellness program fosters the general wellness in your mind, body and spirit. You’ll get to learn about the importance of a balanced meal, safe food handling and proper storage techniques via food safety. This equips you to make healthier nutritional choices that enhance your general wellbeing. The women’s empowerment aspect takes care of specific challenges that impact you as a woman. It inspires personal growth and helps you take full charge of your life.
Combining these programs with therapy ensures “whole person” recovery grounded in personal development. You’ll be empowered to achieve your utmost potential in all aspects of your life. The residential care lasts 90 days. It can also be extended if clinically relevant to your tailored needs. You can move to the outpatient care afterward to continue your healing journey. This allows you to stay in recovery as long as possible.
