About Lee County Youth Development Center – Opelika
Lee County Youth Development Center in Opelika, Alabama, has been entrenched in youth and child welfare and care for more than five decades. They are a nonprofit organization that now has their main campus as well as programming, traditional housing and Foster Care Therapy homes across the state. No one is ever turned away for not being able to pay.
The main campus has an intensive residential services facility. It also provides residential and outpatient psychology services to children, teens, young adults and families. There are several programs run through the main campus. This includes the residential services program that serves children and youth who cannot be treated in their home environment.
The Transitional Living Program helps youth with the struggles and stresses that accompany transitioning from youth to adult, from foster care or residential settings to having the skills and confidence to build a future on their own.
The Independent Living Program builds on all the skills and confidence youth and young adults gain through earlier programs such as the transitional living or intensive residential treatment programs.
Their Passages program is a residential treatment program that provides care for 40 young men and women who are preteen or adolescents who are at-risk. This program is run in conjunction with the State and County Human Resources Departments. The focus and goal is to help youth develop coping and life skills.
The LCYD Voyages program gives support to up to 16 young women at a time who have been committed to or court ordered by the Department of Youth Services or another judicial authority. It is a program to develop discipline and structure in young women’s lives so they may begin to make positive choices and changes in their lives.
A central cafeteria is on the main campus as well. This cafeteria helps alleviate hunger and food insecurity for children and youth in Lee County, whether they are clients or residents of the campus or not.
Their on-call emergency clinical services are available everyday of the year 24 hours a day. These services are available for all clients, residents and associated youths at LCYDC. They also provide emergency mental health status exams and evaluations when needed.
