About Liberty Hall – Batavia
Cazenovia Recovery System – Liberty Hall, located in Batavia, New York, was a community transitional housing facility for male veterans struggling with substance use disorders who were homeless or at risk of homelessness. This residential program was created in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and was rightfully located on the Batavia VA Medical Center campus.
Veterans who were employed but still needed a supervised and structured addiction recovery setting could also benefit from the program. This 18-bed facility serveed veterans over 18 years committed to participating in treatment within a community residential setting. The facility boasted semi-private rooms, recreational areas, on-site meals and full handicap accessibility.
Clients received personalized care tailored to their unique condition with 24-hour supervision by licensed professionals, including therapists, clinicians, counselors and registered nurses. Their therapeutic model adopted trauma-informed approaches and recovery-oriented programming.
That is, the care team focused on understanding and addressing past trauma while supporting long-term recovery and personal growth. Clients participated in group and individual counseling and on-site self-help meetings to build coping skills, address personal issues and support their recovery journey.
Their complete services included case management, daily living skill training, vocational services, community integration, coordination with employment readiness programs and integrated service planning with the VA.
Additionally, they provided access to medical care, on-site or off-site mental health counseling, and build positive relationships with the criminal justice system. The program was licensed by the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services and funded by multiple agencies, including the VA Homeless Grant Per Diem Program, Federal Home Loan Banks and more.
