About LICADD – Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence – Westbury
LICADD – Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence is an addiction treatment center that’s been committed to helping families, individuals and community members of all ages around Westbury, New York, heal from alcohol use disorder and substance use disorder for over 68 years. One amazing thing about this facility is that money isn’t a barrier to getting the help you need. The facility operates mostly on foundation support, special events funding and voluntary contributions. With diligent financial management this allows LICADD to offer many of their services at a modest cost. In some cases, donations can fully cover treatment.
Another great aspect of LICADD is that they offer several specialized programs that target the specific needs of certain communities. One unique treatment program they offer is called the Compassion Fatigue (CF) workshop. This course empathizes with professional caregivers who are coping with the fatigue associated with their profession. This course is perfect for fire fighters, police officers, first responders, educators and other professionals who are struggling with addictions.
Another unique course they offer is focused on grief and loss. LICADD provides grief and loss counseling and support services to those who have lost a loved one and are struggling to cope. The facility has even partnered with Gabriel’s Giving Tree to host the second largest recovery breakfast on Long Island, with over 400 attendees.
Yet another important course is called the Body Project. This group based program is specifically designed for college aged and high school aged girls who are struggling to understand and respond to society’s unrealistic appearance ideals. This course helps young women develop a healthy body image and self esteem.
