This 20 bed facility can be a great way to build independent living skills that support lasting recovery efforts. You’ll benefit from 24/7 guidance and supervision by a friendly care team that offers personalized treatment tailored to your needs. You must however be actively staying sober to participate. That means you must have completed high intensity treatment like detox and inpatient residential rehabilitation.
The facility is centrally positioned in downtown Newburyport and accessible by public transportation. It is within walking distance of shops, hospital/medical offices, houses of worship and the YWCA. Nearby parks like Cashman Park offer peaceful spots for outdoor activities. Merrimack River adds to the calming atmosphere. Both features create a supportive setting for therapeutic practices.
Their residential amenities include double occupancy rooms, a shared kitchen and a living/community room. There’s also a laundry, shared restrooms and a computer lab. Food, bedding and toiletries are provided. Residents share the responsibilities associated with cleaning the facility.
The program is grounded in 12-step practices like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. In fact, you must commit to attending the relevant 12-step or self-help meetings daily and participate fully in other aspects of the treatment to be accepted. This is in addition to maintaining sobriety. Most residents complete the program in six months. Although you may stay longer if needed.
The first five months are exclusively focused on recovery with a full daily schedule of individual and group counseling. You’ll attend therapeutic, medical and legal appointments in the community as well. You’re encouraged to fully integrate into the area via community service.
Recreational outings and activities are important components of the program. This makes the program more fun and exciting and improves your mental wellbeing.
After the first five months you can seek employment to earn income and save toward your next steps following completion of the program. The facility offers ongoing case management services to support your lasting recovery efforts. This includes linkage to vital community resources like stable housing, job placement and educational opportunities. Your case manager may refer you to local self help groups as well.
