About Malvern Institute – Bethlehem
Malvern Institute in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania was a facility that provided addiction treatment services. The services that were available at this location included a partial hospitalization program and an intensive outpatient program. They also offered a women’s empowerment program and psychiatric services.
One of the services that stood out the most to me about this facility was the Women’s Empowerment program. The program provided gender specific treatment for women.
Some of the issues that would be addressed included low self esteem, parenting and trauma histories. I like that they utilized a variety of therapeutic options such as yoga, music therapy and drum circles. The goal of the program was to help women build resiliency and strength as they live with addiction and with their recovery journey.
The facility treated co-occurring disorders with a combination of psychiatric services and medication assisted treatment. Clients received an evaluation from a psychiatrist to determine the severity of their mental illness, and if necessary, were prescribed medication to help manage the symptoms.
Addiction medicines were available to help clients manage common withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia and muscle pain. Along with taking medications like Suboxone or buprenorphine, clients would participate in counseling to learn healthy coping mechanisms to avoid substance use.
Located on Stefko Boulevard, the facility was just 20 minutes away from Allentown, Pennsylvania. Clients were available to enjoy a variety of family friendly sober activities such as visiting the Allentown Art Museum or spending a day at Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom.
