About Michael’s House – Palm Springs
Michael’s House was founded in 1989 as a tribute to a woman’s son who died from an overdose. It is based in Palm Springs, California and has since grown into three campuses with accommodations for 60 residents. They offer residential and outpatient treatment as well as transitional living.
They have received a gold seal of accreditation from CARF.
They have staff that includes physicians and psychiatrists, social workers, nurses and drug abuse counselors. All of these clinicians work together and use an integrative treatment approach.
Michael’s House is in-network with most insurance carriers. That includes Aetna, Cigna and Magellan in addition to ComPsych, Beacon and BlueCross BlueShield.
I like how methodical and detailed the admission process is at Michael’s House. You’ll begin with an admission phone call. During intake, you’ll get a tour, a program schedule, a medical assessment and a chance to settle into your new room.
The heart of the campus is the dining room. Healthy meals and snacks are served throughout the day.
You’ll also be able to have individual counseling sessions with a therapist as well as join process groups with your peers. I like that these groups take place five days a week. Their educational groups cover recovery topics like relapse prevention, healthy boundaries and more.
Michael’s House also provides offsite adventures and recreational activities because you deserve to have sober fun. They’ll take you to offsite 12-step meetings as well to introduce you to a larger supportive community.
During your treatment, patient care counselors will meet with you regularly. You’ll work closely with one of these great folks to set up an aftercare plan. This could include transitional living, help with getting a job and support with legal matters.
You may also get started on medication therapy with prescription meds like Suboxone, Campral, Antabuse.
