About Mountain Lakes Behavioral Healthcare – Scottsboro

Founded in 1971, Mountain Lakes Behavioral Health provides mental health and co-occurring substance abuse treatment in Scottsboro, Alabama. Certified by the Alabama Department of Mental Health and voted one of the best rehab facilities in Huntsville, they accept Medicaid and Medicare as well as operate on a sliding fee scale. They believe that addiction is a treatable disease and that individuals should actively participate in their treatment decisions. They offer both inpatient and outpatient services.

Awarded a State Targeted Response (STR) grant in 2017, they provide medication assisted treatment or MAT for individuals without income or insurance who have been diagnosed with an opioid use disorder. Outpatient services include individual, group, and family therapies, as well as case management and medication monitoring. They offer parental skills training too as well as telemedicine services.

Cedar Lodge is their high intensity residential program, typically lasting two to three weeks. The goal of Cedar Lodge is to improve quality of life by finding balance and healing in all aspects of wellness. All clients are accepted, regardless of ability to pay. This program consists of counseling, peer support, and substance use education. If medical detox is necessary, referrals are given.

The substance use prevention program aims to provide education and to offer alternative activities that are substance free. They seek community based strategies like use prevention and better accessibility to treatment services. From an environmental standpoint, they hope to change community standards and attitudes. They also work to teach people about the connection between drug use and HIV/AIDS exposure.
