About Mountain View Correctional Facility – Charleston
Outpatient substance use treatment is available in Charleston, Maine, at Mountain View Correctional Facility. This facility can accommodate 448 adult male residents and is classified as medium and minimum security or prerelease. The minimum security or prerelease unit’s residents have five years or less left on their sentences. Their staff is committed to assisting each resident in gaining the abilities and discernment required to succeed and contribute positively to society.
The services and programs provided help each resident develop mature thinking, sound decision making and a realistic understanding of both themselves and others. They also work on developing the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively handle the difficulties and problems they will face on a daily basis. The goal of the program is to focus on a treatment and educational foundation that will help residents achieve their future goals. They aim to help participants successfully apply these skills in their personal lives both inside and outside the facility.
In addition to intensive substance use treatment, they provide a cognitive behavioral therapy program. At the conclusion of their sentence each resident is paired with a case manager to help them reintegrate into society. Community based volunteer programs come to this facility to offer residents meetings for Narcotics Anonymous, Alcoholics Anonymous and religious services.
A thorough treatment program is offered in a controlled, secure and encouraging setting that helps residents take ownership of their actions, grow in self awareness and acquire prosocial skills. Additionally they support participants in developing more adaptive thought patterns, applying successful problem solving techniques and improving their capacity to empathize with victims.
All eligible adult residents have access to programming which includes the chance to obtain a high school equivalency diploma. They provide vocational programs in small engines, culinary arts and building trades. Occupational Safety and Health Administration 10 and the National Center for Construction Education and Research Core Curriculum are two of their certificate programs.
