About Mutual Ground Substance Use Services – Aurora
Formerly known as Breaking Free, Mutual Ground Substance Abuse Services is a nonprofit mental health and addiction recovery center for adolescents and adults in Aurora, Illinois. They focus on treating clients who struggling with domestic violence, sexual violence, and substance use disorders. Their services include age specific intensive outpatient and general outpatient programs. They also provide community outreach, DUI services, and a dedicated family counseling program.
Their outpatient services work well with busy work schedules and family obligations, allowing clients to attend therapy on a part time basis. Clients meet with their care team at the beginning to determine which services would be best for their needs and how intensive their treatment should be. Their services may include individual counseling, group counseling, or a combination of both. During the sessions, clients will focus on getting to the root of their addictions. They’ll look at some of the things that trigger them to use drugs or alcohol and how they can develop healthy responses to stress and conflict in their lives.
Throughout the program, I like that there’s an emphasis on regaining personal power and building self esteem. This sends the message that addiction is not the whole story, and that clients are capable of rising above and working through even the hardest circumstances. In addition to these counseling services, the facility also provides several short term programs to help clients sustain their recovery and nurture their relationships. These include a six week substance use education course and an eight week program called Nurturing Families.
Clients give this facility high marks for their professionalism and helpfulness. In reviews, they shared that the services offered here helped them get back on the right track and reclaim their quality of life.
