About Nathaniel Clinic-CASES – New York
Nathaniel Clinic – CASES is an outpatient mental health clinic in New York City, New York. The clinic is located in Harlem, less than a mile from the Striver’s Row historic district and the legendary Apollo Theatre. Their therapists treat individuals impacted by the criminal justice system who are dealing with mental health and substance use disorders. The clinic accepts many Medicare and Medicaid HMO plans.
The clinic is unique in its treatment of people facing incarceration who also have serious mental health and substance use disorders. Their Medicaid reimbursed Assertive Community Treatment program provides an effective alternative to incarceration. Because the program is so successful at reducing recidivism, the clinic now provides intensive community treatment and reentry programs for adults with serious mental illness.
Their court based programs include gender responsive services for women whose behavioral health challenges include a history of trauma. They also offer supervised release instead of bail and alternatives to jail for those with behavioral health needs whose criminal involvement is low level and chronic.
The Building Resilience in Youth program partners with the Police Athletic League (PAL) to place therapists at community centers in the Bronx and Upper Manhattan. The program raises awareness of mental health and facilitates connections to mental health services for kids and their families. They work to provide rapid mental health treatment. Youth who are registered in PAL and are 13-21 are eligible for this program.
The OnTrackNY program is for adolescents and young adults with recent new experiences of psychotic symptoms. Some symptoms include unusual thoughts or beliefs and hallucinations. The program is for young adults and youth who are 16-30 years of age experiencing their first episode of psychosis. The program teaches clients how to make medical decisions. Clients learn effective coping skills and work to achieve wellness while working toward personal goals.
