Neshoba General in Philadelphia, Mississippi specializes in the golden years, treating individuals who are 55 years and over. The inpatient mental health unit has 10 beds with 24 hour medical and mental health care.
The Senior Life program here provides a safe space for healing, protection from self-harm, and mental health treatment to seniors in need. This is a safe space for families too and they encourage a circle of family support for the patient and all members of the family or caregivers.
As we get older, life changes and there are unique and difficult stressors that can affect our mental health. Add the stresses of a mental health condition such as a mood or personality disorder, dementia, depressive or anxiety disorders or psychosis and it can become overwhelming. Geriatric psychiatric specialists and mental health support staff help you and your loved ones navigate all of these things with counselling, medication management, speech, occupational and physical therapy and holistic care for body and mind.
Often people use substances to self medicate and they develop an addiction. Treatment is offered here for those who are struggling with co existing addictions and mental health concerns.
This program is exclusively for people over age 55. Treatment for anyone under the age of 55 is now done through referral to Lackey Memorial Hospital’s Behavioral Health Program in Philadelphia or Weems LifeCare in Meridian.
