About New Day Recovery – Family Services – Oklahoma City
New Day Recovery is a nonprofit outpatient therapy treatment center for youth and their families with mental health and substance use disorders (SUD). The facility is at 7250 Northwest Expressway in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The center accepts many types of insurance, including Medicare and Medicaid.
The treatment center is only 14 miles from the celebrated Chesapeake Boathouse on the banks of the Oklahoma River. There are lots of outdoor water adventures to be had along the river.
The treatment facility focuses on at-risk youth currently in the custody of the Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA) or the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (DHS). The treatment team works with the entire family to create change in problem solving and communication behaviors.
Families are given homework assignments to work on together that help them implement new ways of relating. This strategic family therapy promotes and helps maintain changes within the family dynamic that are effective for dealing with many types of family problems.
The team offers culturally sensitive, customized treatment. Treatment sessions for children are held privately with the therapist for most sessions.
Some therapies, such as parent child interaction therapy (PCIT) for children eight and under include the parents in the sessions. Parents are then briefed on how best to support their children as they heal.
When kids are in trouble it usually starts in the family, so it makes sense for the whole family to seek treatment. When you present for your first appointment, you’ll undergo screening tests. The tests include screening for substance use, gambling, trauma, and depression.
The results of the test help the team develop an individualized treatment plan. You can get help for many types of mental health and substance use challenges including alcohol use disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and more.
Family therapy addresses many types of problems, such as siblings not getting along, a parent with an SUD, or marital conflict. Families can benefit from therapy when there’s a divorce or other major life changes.
