About New Hope Psychological Services – Bloomsburg
Crossroads Counseling, Inc. is located in the building that used to belong to New Hope Psychological Services. They provide different levels of outpatient treatment for adolescents and adults struggling with mental health issues, drug and alcohol addiction, and co-occurring disorders. Here, you can find partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and general outpatient programs to help you overcome your challenges. They have been locally owned and operated since 1990 and have offices across the state. They accept most commercial insurance plans.
One thing you might find interesting about this clinic is the way they view addiction. Rather than seeing it as a personal flaw or a problem, they acknowledge that it’s a complex disease. It affects a person’s entire life, including their family. They see substance abuse as the result of four different things: obsessive thoughts, destructive actions, physical urges, and damaged relationships.
They recognize that this condition is personal and affects everyone differently. That’s why they don’t apply a generic treatment approach for every client. Instead, the team works with each person to create a custom plan just for them. Usually, the plan includes a combination of individual, group, and family therapy sessions to help the client work through their emotions, address their triggers, and find healthy ways to resolve conflict. They also offer specialty programs to address topics like anger management, relapse prevention, and coping skills. All levels of outpatient care include the same services, but PHP is the most time intensive. It requires more than nine hours of counseling each week, while IOP only requires around six to nine.
I like that they keep their counseling times flexible, and mention working around each client’s schedule, even meeting in the evening if that’s what the client needs. When services are too structured, it can be difficult to make the time to attend each week. This flexibility may encourage them to attend more often.
While some former clients mention communication issues with the staff, others share that their therapist went above and beyond to help them. One client remarked that they felt very comfortable opening up to their counselor and it seemed like they’d known them their whole life.
