Newport News Behavioral Health Center is in Newport News, Virginia. They provide mental health, psychiatric, and addiction treatment to children and youths from the age of 8 to 21 years of age. There are inpatient (IP), residential, comprehensive assessment programs, and programs from sexually aggressive males. There’s also a residential addiction treatment program for adolescents age 11 to age 18.

The addiction treatment program for youngsters between the ages of 11 and 18 and is facilitated and run by licensed substance abuse and mental health professionals. When they’re admitted, there will be SASSI-A2 and SASSI-3 assessments and screenings. They’ll partake in intensive weekly groups for substance abuse prevention. A large part of the program is individual, family, and group sessions as well as expressive therapies. Educational programs preparing participants for GED and life skills workshops are available to prepare them for a successful reintegration into their family and community. There are art, music, recreation, and pet therapy programs and 24-hour nursing care.
The acute inpatient psychiatric treatment unit for children over the age of 8 is prepared to provide urgent care for children and youth experiencing a mental health crisis. There are 24 beds on the unit and it is open 24 hours a day. The staff are board certified professionals along with a qualified mental health nursing and support staff to meet the individual needs of each child and their family during the child’s admission.
There are structured daily programming with individual, group, and family therapy, case management, and family support. There is a full education program to help children and youth stay on target with their schooling. Activities and expressive therapies are a part of the extensive recreational program that is offered to patients as part of their care plan.
