About Nugen’s Ranch – Point MacKenzie
Located in Wasilla, Alaska, Nugen’s Ranch is an alcohol and drug rehab center for adults located on 116 acres of land owned by Alaska Addiction Rehabilitation Services, Inc. (AARS). They take a holistic approach to addiction treatment, allowing you to tend vegetable gardens, care for livestock, and work in the on-site greenhouse as you participate in treatment. They provide residential treatment and outpatient housing services. They prefer clients to pay with Medicaid, though private insurance is accepted in some cases.
In residential treatment, you help with day-to-day ranch tasks. They have four separate fields, including more than 20 acres of vegetable and flower gardens. In addition, you work closely with addiction counselors to develop treatment plans that help you address substance use disorder in a healthy and productive way. Residential services include counseling sessions for individuals and groups, programming based on the 12 step model of recovery, and life skills that can help you avoid triggers and relapse once you graduate.
Basically, you’re combining regular therapy with nature, animals, and meaningful work so you can reach recovery. You’ll learn responsibility, gain self-esteem, and be held accountable for your work. You also have plenty of time to meditate, study, reflect, and engage in recreational activities.
The outpatient programming at Nugen’s Ranch is for clients who need to continue living in a safe, sober environment as they progress in their treatment. During your time on-site, you continue to participate in 12 step groups, counseling sessions, and work therapy. The homes are gender specific to create a distraction-free atmosphere.
