About NY Making Choices Treatment Center – Outpatient – Mount Eden
NY Making Choices Treatment Center/SCAN is an addiction and mental health treatment facility that provides proactive prevention and recovery services to adults and children throughout Harlem and the Bronx. Each year, SCAN (Supportive Children’s Advocacy Network) and the New York Boys & Girls Harbor serve over 7,600 children and 1,000 families.
SCAN-Harbor is currently considered the largest youth service provider in Harlem and the South Bronx. The facility was founded back in 1977 to serve the youth and high risk families in the area.
I think one of the best aspects of this facility is that they focus on empowering and inspiring children and families to succeed. According to the facility’s website, more than half of the employees at SCAN-Harbor have formerly received similar types of treatment in the past or are parents of children who are currently enrolled in the facility’s treatment programs.
One thing that sets this facility apart is its devotion to diversity when it comes to the programs they offer. Interested clients can take traditional courses that focus on substance abuse treatment, childhood education, and employment skills training, or they can opt for more diverse offerings that focus on literacy, LGBTQ support, violence prevention, youth leadership, performing arts, and more.
Substance abuse treatment involves individual and group treatment, education, and counseling workshops. The Family Renewal Center also provides preventative services for substance abusing parents. Another important program offered at the facility is domestic violence support. The facility provides counseling, referrals, and advocacy for victims.
