This is one of the few practices in the Northwest that focuses on delivering culturally sensitive care to the African-American community. They collaborate closely with community partners to reach a population of underserved individuals who have been affected by trauma, mental health conditions and substance use disorders. Part of their mission is to provide education and awareness about these issues and training for healthcare and social service providers.
Your comprehensive program may use trauma-informed practices and approaches that are Afrocentric and culturally specific. Their healthcare professionals engage and educate the community using teaching and training while providing services to the community. They also strive to remove the stigma in the community that is associated with mental illness.
Within the Department of Psychiatry, you can access outpatient mental health clinics that treat a wide range of mental health conditions. They offer 24-hour mental health emergency centers that were created in partnership with several local healthcare systems. Mental health treatment may include therapeutic methods such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness and medication management.
They work with many of the local private insurance providers and the Oregon Health Basics plan. They accept donations to help cover care and may work with you on a payment plan when you qualify.
