About Oliver-Pyatt Centers – South Miami
Oliver-Pryatt Centers was an eating disorder treatment program located in Miami, Florida. Adults afflicted with an eating disorder could receive residential treatment, outpatient treatment, and dual diagnosis treatment for those with a co-occurring mental health disorder or substance addiction. Oliver-Pryatt Centers is no longer active.
Eating disorders fall under the umbrella of mental health illness but sometimes aren’t treated by mental health facilities. Admittedly, eating disorders are very complicated, so it isn’t bad when a center treats them exclusively. However, that can complicate matters for those who have related dual diagnosis disorders.
Oliver-Pryatt Centers was special in that their model accommodated those who had an eating disorder as well as related mental health disorders and addiction problems. As with mental illnesses like depression and anxiety, many eating disorders such as bulimia and anorexia can create symptoms that cause these other seemingly unrelated problems to develop. Consolidating treatment to one location like Oliver-Pryatt Centers created a program for accessible comprehensive care.
Though Oliver-Pryatt Centers is now closed, other locations are available that provide such combined care services.
