About Palm House Recovery Center – Athens
Located in Athens, Georgia, is the drug rehab nonprofit organization Palm House Recovery. This organization supports men who are working through drug, alcohol, or substance abuse disorders. With three residential facilities available, you’ll have a safe and supportive place to live as you work through your recovery journey.
At Palm House Recovery, you’ll find that their programming is based on the peer social model. This is a model in which you’ll be encouraged to work through stressors and other challenges you encounter in recovery while being supported by your peers, other men in your residential program.
All of the residential homes are led by peer mentors. These mentors serve as role models you can look up to and communicate with as you work through your own struggles. Their lived experience can help you work through your own.
Their approach to recovery is the opposite of the clinical model. Instead of working with healthcare professionals who will tell you what your struggles are and then prescribe a treatment plan, you’ll work with peers in a collaborative environment where you get to safely learn about your struggles and navigate them using the skills you have and will develop during your time here.
This social model allows you to make mistakes in a safe environment while finding continued positive reinforcement to keep you on the right track.
Palm House Recovery has close partnerships with local judges, probation officers, and other professionals in the legal field. This partnership allows you to stay the course of your recovery goals regardless of past criminal encounters you’ve had. It also enables you and the other residents to stay clean and sober so you can work toward your recovery goals.
Overall, you’ll find that the services here are designed to help you become the best version of yourself. You’ll get to explore your interests and hobbies, engage in community projects, and participate in recreational activities with other residents. This allows you to build a sense of community so you don’t feel alone in your recovery journey.
