As you take any of these medications, you’ll also be receiving counseling and behavioral therapies. Your counselor will teach you coping mechanisms and stress management strategies that can help with preventing relapse. They may use therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavioral therapy to change any negative thoughts or beliefs contributing to your addiction. Some of the goals you can achieve through medication assisted treatment are a lower risk of relapse, improved well being and increased ability to gain and maintain employment.
