About Salvation Army Adult Rehab Center – Portland
The Salvation Army Adult Rehab Center is a residential rehab for adult men in Portland, Maine. The Salvation Army actually has these rehab centers throughout the country too.
This is a unique type of drug and alcohol treatment program. It’s largely a work therapy program so you’ll be working in Salvation Army facilities throughout your program. But the key trade-off is that this program is free of charge even if you don’t have insurance or Medicaid or Medicare. Essentially you work in their facilities and they provide you with housing and good and addiction treatment in exchange.
The work therapy can give you a sense of accomplishment and help you learn some job skills for building your career in recovery but that’s not the only way they treat addiction. You’ll have individual counseling too and group counseling to help you work through the issues and challenges that impact your addiction. Along the way you’ll also develop a bond with the other men in the program so you’ll have a strong peer support system.
The Salvation Army is a Christian organization and Christianity plays a core role in the program too. You’ll have spiritual counseling throughout your program and attend services as well.
Clients’ feedback about this program varies a lot. Some say that it was life changing and helped them get their lives on track for good while others say they felt that the work therapy takes advantage of them. Clients also note that there is little to no help here for mental health conditions so this is something to keep in mind if you have a dual diagnosis.
