About Samaritan Works – Serenity House – Sidney

Samaritan Works Serenity House is run by a nonprofit Christian organization and provides sober living homes to people battling addiction, have a desire to recover, or need help holding onto recovery. Serenity House is for men only, but Samaritan Works also has Amelia House which is for women. You’ll find ’em located out in Sidney, Ohio.

Their motto here is that the recovery process takes a long time and patients need that time to reverse negative patterns and thought processes. Here, they’ve a place for that by learning to live around others in a sober environment while taking responsibility and making a full time commitment towards sobriety.

After that, going back to work and getting back out into the community can start to happen. They also believe connecting to the church and building a strong spiritual support group is essential to your recovery.

You’ll have educational classes, faith based support and groups, weekly assessments and meetings, and an overall comprehensive recovery program. They have a strict screening process and you have to be 18 or over and also make a six-month commitment to the program. Your stay here can be anywhere from six months to 18 months or even two years depending on your needs and progression.

They recently acquired a vehicle for people living at their homes so patients can go to necessary appointments like the doctor’s office or court. If outdoor excursions are possible, check out local greenspaces like Stephen Brown Park or The People’s Garden.

Patients here say living here provides self sufficiency and accountability and you have a daily schedule with some flexibility. If you choose to use alcohol or drugs or break the rules you will be asked to leave.
