About SCAN – Serving Children and Adults in Need – Youth Recovery Home – Laredo
Serving Children and Adults in Need (SCAN) Inc’s Youth Recovery Home in Webb County is a residential treatment and recovery program for young men between the ages of 13 and 17 who are struggling with behavioral or emotional issues and addiction. Treatment focuses on experiential therapy, individual and group therapy as well as family counseling.
This program helps young men identify destructive or negative behavior and choices that leave a negative impact on their lives now and in the future. They then learn how to cope with stresses and past trauma in a more positive and healthy manner and realize a dream for a sober, brighter future with treatment and life goals that will get them there.
Education is an important part of the program at SCAN and they believe knowledge is power. Every youth is given the opportunity to gain the skills and academic support they need for a traditional school education and for a productive and healthy life.
They are taught more than just math, languages, and science. Those are important, but so are life skills to learn how to eat healthy, how to set S.M.A.R.T. goals and how to cope with life stresses and disappointments in a positive manner.
There are also education sessions on overdose prevention, tobacco harm awareness and cessation programs, parenting supports and resources as well as educational programs on the effects of prenatal exposure to alcohol, drugs, and toxins.
Each young man receives a comprehensive assessment to help create a treatment plan that will meet their individual needs. Therapy is offered one-on-one, in group settings, and through family counseling when appropriate. Case management services to help ensure treatment is seamless and effective in relapse prevention and recovery support.
Mindfulness, social and recreational activities as well as experiential therapy exercises are also part of the process and services provided to the clients of SCAN.
