About Self Help Movement – Philadelphia
Self Help Movement in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is a residential treatment facility that serves men who are 18 years of age and older. It’s located in the northeast section of Philadelphia on Southampton Boulevard near the Lighthouse Field. The staff aims to provide you with an environment where you receive respect and compassion as you work on your recovery. The facility offers three levels of treatment, which are high intensity residential services, low intensity residential services and the Recovery House.
The main focus of high level residential treatment is stabilization after detox and establishing a support network that consists of family, peers, and professionals. The treatments you’ll receive include individual and small group therapy and adjunctive therapies. I like that they offer a variety of adjunctive therapies, such as art and music therapy and meditation. You’ll also receive support with your education and employment.
Staff members will help you obtain your GED and offer classes such as basic computer instruction to improve your chances of getting employed. Clients in this level of treatment get their own individual rooms when available but may be assigned a roommate in some cases.
Low intensity residential services offer the same services as the high intensity program except with more of a focus on independent growth and responsible community living. You’ll have access to computer lab services such as resume building, college enrollment and money management. The goal of this program is to prepare you to be able to manage your daily living responsibilities without using substances.
The Recovery House is a sober living home for individuals who are transitioning to being self-sufficient. All individuals are required to be employed or actively seeking employment. The residents will also be expected to manage their own medical and psychiatric affairs. You’ll still receive case management services that will assist you with obtaining employment and independent housing and help with addressing medical or psychological concerns when appropriate.
