About SMOC – Serenity House – Hopkinton
Serenity House, operated by South Middlesex Opportunity Council, is a residential women’s addiction treatment facility in Hopkinton, Massachusetts. Some services that they provide include individual counseling, case management and pregnancy and parenting classes.
Individuals with addiction often have a hard time getting and maintaining employment. The facility offers vocational assessment and training to help clients. Staff members guide clients into understanding their employment goals and job interests.
Clients were able to gain job or industry specific knowledge and skills to make them more likely to be hired for a specific job role. The staff also educated their clients on topics such as resume building and interview skills. Along with vocational assessments and training, additional helpful services offered at this facility include computer training, housing referrals, and smoking cessation classes.
Counselors provide clients help with developing their treatment goals and monitor their progress. Through individual counseling, patients also learn about the root cause of their addiction, their triggers, and coping mechanisms.
Some therapeutic approaches that may have been used in these sessions are cognitive (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). CBT helps to change negative thought patterns that hindered a client’s recovery and DBT helps clients learn how to regulate their emotions.
The facility isn’t far from various state parks in the area such as Hopkinton State Park and Whitehall State Park. When clients are well enough, they can walk through various trails or enjoy a picnic at one of the picnic areas.
