VA San Diego Healthcare System- Rio CBOC, located in San Diego, California, is an outpatient behavioral health clinic and mental health treatment center that focuses on the unique needs of military personnel and Veterans. It is important to note that this location is not an alcohol or drug rehab center.

The outpatient program begins with an assessment to determine the areas of challenge for each person. Psychiatric care, medication review and management services, individual therapy, group therapy, case management services, and trauma-informed treatment are provided. It is important to note that this is not an addiction treatment center, so if addiction is a concern, individuals may need to be referred to an alcohol and drug rehab center that can provide higher levels of care. VA San Diego Healthcare System Mission Valley CBOC can provide support for those living with dual diagnosis.

Individuals who have made progress through the outpatient level of care may choose to continue treatment long-term through an aftercare program that allows them to meet with their mental health practitioner at a lesser frequency.

VA San Diego Healthcare System Mission Valley CBOC accepts VA insurance. If a person is interested in using insurance for any type of treatment, they are encouraged to contact their insurance provider before starting their services. This is because out-of-network benefits vary from plan to plan and may dictate the amount of coverage available to the client.

Aftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Outpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Military Program

Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
