About Sound – Northgate – Seattle

Sound Health is an award-winning provider of addiction treatment and mental health services with 15 locations in the greater Seattle area. The organization is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and has served the community since 1966. Nestled in the north of the Emerald City lies Sound-Northgate. It’s conveniently located just off the I5 and a short metro ride away from the University of Washington. This clinic is an accessible resource for Northgate residents needing support with drug and alcohol addiction and co-occurring challenges.

The Northgate facility provides a spectrum of telehealth and in-person services to support people in their recovery journey. Of these, one of the most prominent is mental health counseling.

The facility offers therapy and case management for people experiencing a range of mental health challenges including conditions such as depression, anxiety, manic-depression and borderline personality disorder as well as interpersonal issues with family and partners. Patients can choose between individual, family or group counseling or a combination of these. Their mental health counseling and addiction treatment services are open to children, teens and adults.

Notably, Sound Health provides specialized programs for various groups including older adults, people who are hard of hearing, BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color), people who have developmental disabilities and folks who are involved with the criminal or juvenile justice system. They are also one of the few drug and alcohol rehab providers to have specialized services for members of the LGBTQIA+ community. That is fitting since the clinic is just a 13-minute drive from Seattle’s predominant LGBTQIA+-friendly neighborhood Capitol Hill.

That said, feedback is mixed. Several current and former patients give Sound Health and its counselors and case workers high praise. Some note that they feel safe here. However, several other reviewers complain about difficulty scheduling appointments, frequent appointment cancellations and poor communication from staff members (especially relating to scheduling issues).

Sound Health aims to make its services accessible to everyone. They offer a sliding payment scale based on income and household size. They also accept Medicare, Medicaid and most commercial insurance plans.

Programs

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
