South Central Alabama Mental Health is a behavioral health facility located in Andalusia, Alabama. This location hosts their First Step program for adult men who are over 19 years old and have a substance use disorder. They also treat men who struggle with mental health issues and addiction issues at the same time.
They will provide a full assessment to determine what type of treatment will be needed. If you do not need full-time residential care, they can refer you to the outpatient or intensive outpatient programs they have at other locations.
This is a level III mental health facility, which means that treatment will last 14 to 28 days. You must have moderate to severe substance use disorder or co-occurring disorders to receive treatment here. They prioritize people who are intravenous drug users or those who have AIDS. The staff is there around the clock.
You will be provided with a bed and three meals a day as well as group and individual therapy. They can provide you with medication assisted treatment (MAT) for psychiatric disorders and pain associated with withdrawal.
Treatment for substance use disorder often includes behavioral therapy in which you will be taught to think differently to change destructive behaviors. Group therapy will focus on various areas of addiction recovery. You will learn about the effects of drugs on your body and your ability to function when you take them. You will also be provided with various coping mechanisms to deal with stressful situations.
The staff will refer you to aftercare services. They can help you find housing and community 12 Step meetings as well.
