About South Community – Moraine
South Community Behavioral Health in Dayton, Ohio, is a nonprofit that provides mental health and substance use care. Their services are available to adults, families, and youth.
South Community sets out to improve the whole person’s health status and quality of life for all individuals through their healthcare services and health promoting resources. They work to achieve this through various services outside of substance use treatment, such as Caring Hands food pantry, community intervention program for adults and employment assistance programs. They desire to provide the best care to each person they serve and welcome suggestions on how they can improve an individual’s experience.
The facility treats addictions to all substances, including legal and illegal drugs. They understand that a variety of causes can lead individuals to use substances. One potential cause of substance use that South Community Behavioral Health can help with is mental illness. Their dual disorder treatment can address both substance use and serious mental illnesses at the same time. This organization not only helps adults with substance use issues but youth as well through seven challenges programs.
A unique thing that I like about this facility is its Shaping Up Program. They provide clients with severe mental illness with a personal health mentor. The health mentor, who is a certified personal fitness trainer, works with the client to create a personal health plan that will be carried out with the mentor’s support through exercise, nutrition and preventative care. The health mentor keeps clients motivated to meet all of their health goals, which can help support a client in their addiction recovery journey.
