Southeast Vocational Services is a unique type of program within the addiction recovery space. This service in Columbus, Ohio is a vocational program for people who are in the substance use disorder treatment program at Southeast Healthcare. It was formerly called Cova Center of Vocational Alternatives. Once you have progressed in your recovery and are ready to build your new life in recovery, this service could be your next step.
Southeast Vocational Services helps you to prepare for and establish a career. This can be an important part of recovery because this gives you financial stability as well as the accountability and reliability of a daily job. A career can give you a sense of purpose and a reason to stay sober.
Everyone comes to addiction treatment at a different stage of their life and career so there are varying programs here based on your vocational needs.
For example you might be a fit for Project Work. This program will set you up with up to 12 months of transitional employment which may then become a permanent job or it can give you references and experience that will help you secure a permanent job. There’s also the Career Development program which gives you training and skill development to prepare you for a new career. You can learn computer skills and other essential skills that will make you a better candidate.
Along with preparing you for work and connecting you with job opportunities. this program can help guide you along the way too as you’re establishing your career. They offer job search assistance and job coaching. They even have benefits counseling to help you understand what your new job offers and how to best use your benefits.
I haven’t seen very many of these types of programs in the addiction recovery world but they recognize how important your job is to your stability and how much your stability affects your sobriety.
