About Spurwink Services – Portland
Spurwink Services operated out of Portland, Maine, before this location was bought by Pine Tree Recovery Center. When they were open, their Bishop Street location served as the Cumberland County Children’s Advocacy Center and was home to the Spurwink Child Abuse Program.
Spurwick Services offered a broad range of mental health services to children, adults and families. They also supported you if you needed targeted substance abuse treatment services. These services were offered both in the clinic and through in-home health.
Through their child abuse program, children who have struggled with trauma or other adverse life experiences brought on by neglect or abuse were supported here. This was often a window in which health professionals could glean whether a child or their family was struggling with mental health or substance abuse issues. When these struggles were identified early on, children and families were more likely to get the care they needed in order to live a healthier life.
One of the ways they offered support was through case management that addressed the unique struggles you were facing. Identifying what those challenges were and pairing you with the appropriate programs in the community helped strengthen your chances for success in your recovery journey. This might have included counseling, in-home care, medication support and services through school programming.
Spurwink was deeply rooted within their community and had partnerships with different agencies and other locations within their organization. Partnership services included evaluations and integrated healthcare. When you started receiving services at the Portland location, you tapped into a network you could lean on whether you were experiencing challenges in recovery or needed specialized care.
