Star Vista – Adolescent Substance Abuse Program in Daly City, California, provides counseling to children and youth who are between the ages of 12 and 21. Services include helping youth deal with substance abuse, mental health issues, life stresses and transitions, dealing with the after effects of traumatic events and emotional regulation. Most groups and services provided by Star Vista are free. They are a nonprofit organization.
Youth are given a full assessment and evaluation so that the right resources, programs and services are implemented in your plan of care. Treatment includes individual, group, and family counseling; case management, parent or caregiver supports and life skills training. Individuals learn to identify and deal with emotions while setting positive goals for therapy and life. You’re taught how to communicate in a healthy manner, build healthy relationships in life, gain awareness of the effects of substance abuse and develop mindfulness and coping skills.
Star Vista is licensed by the State Department of Health Care Services. Their staff are mental health professionals who have expertise in counseling and guiding youth to a brighter, healthier future.
There is a crisis center that provides immediate help to those who are feeling hopeless or suicidal. Anyone needing support through a personal crisis or mental health crisis may seek help by calling the crisis line and talking to trained crisis workers. There is also a clinical services Youth Stabilization, Opportunity and Support Team to provide extra support and clinical services to anyone under the age of 25 or families in crisis.
Star Vista helps almost 50,000 people each year in San Mateo County. The majority of those served are youth under the age of 24 who need support and counseling. There are programs for youth coming out of foster care, are homeless, or who need extra support while in their family home. Residential, health programs, leadership programs, outpatient counseling, LBGTQ+ programming, and more are provided in conjunction with addiction treatment or separately depending on an individual’s situation and needs.
