About Texas Native Health – Dallas
Texas Native Health was once called the Urban Inter-Tribal Center back when it opened in 1971. You’ll find ‘em located out in Dallas, Texas. They’re dedicated to meeting the diverse needs of Native Americans in Texas. They offer comprehensive, culturally sensitive healthcare. This includes help for substance misuse.
They’re located in the heart of Dallas’s Medical District. They’ve recently completed a renovation and grand reopening. When they first opened more than 50 years ago, they operated out of the Dallas Indian United Methodist Church with volunteer doctors, the focus was on providing healthcare to tribal members without access to services. Today, their mission is to strengthen and encourage the health and well-being of Native Americans through patient-centered care.
Services include addiction counseling, but they also provide referrals for inpatient and outpatient treatment programs and medication-assisted treatment (MAT). There’s even a program to help you stop smoking.
The clinic doesn’t charge patients for any services. It doesn’t matter if you’re insured or not. They encourage patients who have insurance coverage to use it. There’s no co-pay, and it’s a great way to help meet your annual deductible. Plus, your visits contribute toward reaching the max out of pocket limit for the year. You can get the care you need while also making your insurance work for you!
Connecting with others who have similar experiences is a powerful part of healing. Group therapy sessions and support groups help build that sense of community. Groups range from AA to Healing Circles and meetings for seniors or women. TNH also offers Narcan training to help keep you and your community safe by teaching people how to respond to an opioid overdose in an emergency.
Addiction treatment here focuses on healing the whole person, recognizing the unique cultural struggles and trauma Native American people face, which can contribute to substance use. I like how they conduct outreach programs to help Native Americans get back to their roots. Their field trips and education programs for K-12 students can instill pride and confidence, which can stop addictions in their tracks before they escalate.
TNH makes it easy to get the support you need in a welcoming and safe environment. It’s a space where both recovery and personal healing can happen at the same time.
