About The Prevention Council of Putnam – Carmel Hamlet
The Prevention Council of Putnam is a nonprofit organization that focuses on providing information and referrals to anyone in need. They don’t treat addiction directly, but they provide support, education and prevention programs. Their main offices are located in Carmel, New York.
One of the things that they’ve put into place is a recovery peer advocate system. It helps you when you’re going through adverse effects caused by substance use disorder. Certified and peer based, this service includes education and coaching at any stage of your recovery journey. Your assigned peer can help you with finding healthcare services, housing facilities, work, transport, and any other needs you have. They can also lend you their knowledge and experience to guide you through self directed recovery.
Some of the other community programs offered by the Preventative Council include teen specific education, opioid overdose prevention and help for gambling addiction. Something unique that they offer is a simulated impaired driving experience (SIDNE). This recreates the experience of driving a car while distracted or after drinking or using drugs. It’s an impactful prevention measure that shows firsthand the dangers of driving while impaired.
