About Turning Point Alternative Living Solutions – Scranton

Turning Point Alternative Living Solutions (TPALS) is an outpatient behavioral and addiction recovery center in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Their holistic approach is based on Ceremonial Thought Processing (CTP), a mindfulness exercise that teaches clients to recognize disruptive thought patterns before acting and disrupting them with healthy alternatives. They serve adult patients in an urban setting with modern amenities.

TPALS treatment plans use evidence backed treatments to promote higher self awareness and personal responsibility. This approach seeks to minimize harmful critical thinking that leads to harmful and addictive behaviors.

For some people, rehabilitation is less intimidating if they can continue living their daily lives simultaneously. Outpatient treatment allows clients to make regularly scheduled appointments with their care team to receive treatment at the TPALS facility for a few hours at a time. The length of outpatient treatment is flexible depending on a client’s needs.

CTP is the foundation of the TPALS treatment plan. Through cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) modalities, self development, harm reduction, biofeedback, motivational interviewing, and mental health education, clients learn to analyze their thoughts deeper to understand how they influence their emotions and actions. The whole person focus helps clients meet their emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs to improve themselves.

Pathological thinking is a form of obsessive thought wherein someone finds their thoughts following repeated patterns. When these thoughts are negative, they can cause continuing despair and anguish. CTP doesn’t seek to end these thoughts but to make clients more aware of them, making them easier to analyze and put into a realistic perspective.

When clients can relax, slow down, and sit with negative thoughts, they can better assess what triggers them and their impact. From there, they can look at how they can respond to them rather than view a response as a foregone conclusion. CTP is introduced and practiced in group therapy sessions.

TPALS is licensed by the State of Pennsylvania.

Programs

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

LGBTQ Program

Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
