About Twin Lakes Recovery Center – Athens
Twin Lakes Recovery Center has multiple locations, including its 35 acre residential facility on Highway 11 in Monroe, Georgia. The center is accredited by The Joint Commission. They treat substance use disorder as well as co occurring mental health disorders. They accept all major insurers. Even if your insurance isn’t on their list it’s likely that they accept it.
The center offers medical detox services in its inpatient facility. Detox is different for every person depending on the type of substance use and the amount of time you’ve used the substance. You’ll be medically monitored and treated for withdrawal symptoms. The acute phase of detox when you experience the most difficult symptoms usually lasts about 3-7 days. During detox, you’ll have access to the residential treatment program and other support.
The residential program includes experiential therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as well as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). You’ll also use the 12 Step program. You’ll have individual and group therapy, meet with a psychiatrist for medication management if necessary, and learn about relapse prevention. If appropriate, you’ll have access to medication assisted treatment (MAT) maintenance.
If you’re a Veteran or First Responder, they have the Tactical Recovery program. It’s a specially designed program to help you through PTSD. The care is trauma informed and they use evidence based practices such as accelerated resolution therapy (ART).
The staff is certified in ART which is an effective therapy for PTSD. ART is a VA-preferred treatment for Veterans. Every client in the inpatient program (whether you’re a Veteran, First Responder, or not) has an ART session within two weeks of beginning treatment. You may have follow-ups as needed.
The facility is on a wooded property and you’ll be able to play volleyball, basketball, badminton, and horseshoes. You’ll have time for walking, meditation, and fishing. There are also two miniature cows on the property that serve as therapy animals.
The Monroe location also has a two day family recovery program. Clients’ families come together with other families to learn about addiction and co occurring disorders. Family members learn how addiction affects more than the person with the substance use disorder. The family program is included in the price of inpatient treatment.
