About UPMC Mercy – Pittsburgh

UPMC Mercy — Pittsburgh is a Catholic hospital providing mental health and substance abuse treatment programs in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a short distance from the Monongahela River. This location offers several primary and specialty care services in addition to its addiction and behavioral health programs. They serve adult clients.

UPMC Mercy has an 18 bed unit for medically monitored detoxification. They also maintain a team of peer support specialists to help clients navigate treatment and explore post treatment options. Services offered include:

Medically monitored detox is the safest way for clients to withdraw from drugs and alcohol and is often the first step in treating addiction. Detox takes place at the hospital so staff can help clients manage their withdrawal symptoms and prepare them for the next step in their treatment plan.

UPMC Mercy uses MAT to treat opioid addiction. Following an assessment, clients are prescribed an FDA approved medication to reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms. MAT is combined with outpatient counseling services and is not provided independently.

Clients in crisis can visit (or be referred to) UPMC Mercy for stabilization. During this time, they will undergo assessment and receive therapeutic support services. Once stable, clients will be referred to an outpatient program or other support service. This service is also available over the telephone.

Programs

Adult Program

Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young Adult Program

Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
